About Us

Our Mission

To equip the people of God for a life of ministry.

Our Vision

To see God glorified, souls saved, lives changed and ministry faithfully conducted.

Our Values & Beliefs

To equip the people of God by sharing the word of God and leading people to Christ through the guidance of the Holy Spirit using these seven principles

Worship

We are called to worship the one and only true and living God as He has revealed Himself according to His word.Luke 4:8—Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’

Fellowship

We are called to live in fellowship with God, each other and the community. Acts 2:42—They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Discipleship

We are called to make disciples—disciples that are subject to God and not the will of man. Matthew 28:19-20—“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Training

We are called to train and equip people for ministry using the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16—All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Ministry

We are called to help people identify the ministry that God has set out for them and to live it out daily. Ephesians 4:11-13—So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service (ministry), so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Evangelism

We believe that the call of evangelism is available to each person in the body of Christ. We are called to be living witnesses to those in our community and to share with them the love of a living God and the message of a risen Christ. 2 Timothy 4:5—But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Missions

We are called to go into all the world and to share with them a message of hope and love. We are called to be the tangible hands and feet of God stretched out to the world. Matthew 25:34-36—“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.’

Our History

Four Winds Christian Church, a branch of Four Winds Christian Ministries, Inc., was born out of a vision that God gave Pastor Leona and Rev. Richard A. Tatum I in 1987.  The vision was to open a ministry center for pastors, ministers and missionaries to come refresh and recharge.  The name of the ministry—taken from Ezekiel 37:9-10—has been Four Winds since its inception. The vision has several layers and is still developing.

The first layer of the vision established was the Four Winds Biblical Training Academy (FWBTA), which is an online biblical training program, which began in May 2011. It is designed to help those desiring to grow in their knowledge of the word of God and their Christian faith. Using their seminary training, the Tatums have taught students biblical and practical principles of Christian living and ministry. The FWBTA is specifically designed for those who have a call to and love of ministry but who do not feel led to go to seminary or bible college yet, but who are ready to move forward with training in their calling/gifting in ministry. Although this phase has been on hold for two years, it is scheduled to resume in the Summer of 2023. The goal is to “Equip God’s people for a life of ministry.”

The second layer of the vision, Four Winds Christian Church, also arose from God’s leading. On April 28, 2013, the Tatums began Four Winds Christian Church in their home with just the two of them. The congregation began to grow from there, moving to two other locations before settling in and co-locating with Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church (LAHPC)—its current location—at 2002 W. Olmos, San Antonio, Texas. In addition to sharing space with LAHPC, the two congregations as share a community worship service and fellowship each month—normally on the third Sunday, but varies based on other church activities. Four Winds is looking to expand its worship service and other religious programs.

The vision to open a ministry retreat center remains and is still unfolding!  Praise the Lord! In the meantime, Four Winds increasing its mission works and pursuing an international mission presence.
